Interestingly, too many don’t give a lot of thought as how they have been treating others, and yet chances are THEY want to be treated well and respected. Life is a “two-way street“, though it is easy to only think from your own perspective and needs. One medical doctor expressed frustration that the hospitals and health industry has pressured the doctors to spend less time with patients. The medical office will rush patients through like a “cattle call”. The doctors are expected to see more patients in shorter time frames, treat them quickly, and encourage more costly procedures than are really necessary. Some medical facilities may even encourage unnecessary medical procedures. I have even heard that fewer people are choosing to be medical doctors for these reasons and others. That would be tragic, though I hear this is already the trend.
Such trends and expectations are becoming more common than not. In whatever industry you are employed, do you see this to be the case? I have written about the word “professional” before, as this word used to convey a higher level of integrity and quality of service. A “Professional” was known to be one who provided the very best service possible — with no excuses. (There are “professionals” in all industries.)
What kind of reputation do you have in your business or industry? What level of service do provide? Do you try to be sensitive to the needs of your customer? Do you meet their expectations? Would your peers classify you as a “professional” in your line of work? Are you proud of what you do for others, as well as how you service them? You shouldn’t need to be quizzed about this or even surveyed, but you should want to do your best for your own pride, self-esteem, and satisfaction.
Ask yourself if you feel good about the work you do as well as your organization. Is your business or organization ones who treat everyone respectfully? Others can share their own opinions about how your organization does overall, but if you see anything being done inappropriately or poorly, would you say anything? Are you a “true professional”? Workplace Behavior should be a critical factor for you and your organization. How would both rank?
